For a Christian the heart is a central focal point for all wisdom and knowledge of God. Having a heart that is free and liberated from the world’s view of life is essential for sound Christian living. It starts with our hearts, “A good man brings good things out of the goods stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of”(Luke 6:45). God commands us to deal with four types of hearts when we deal with giving: We must deal with our selfish heart; we must deal with our grieving heart; we must develop a generous heart; and, we must develop a grateful heart. We must remind ourselves where we came from and what God saved us from. Never get over the fact that God saved you. Never forget the slavery you were once in, slaves to sin. So how do we start cultivating this kind of heart? Start where you're at. Invest in the gospel where you are being fed. When you do this with a grateful and generous heart, you are replenishing your food that you need to grow. You give because you were once slaves, you were people who had nothing and God blessed you. Remember, when you give with a generous and grateful heart, God blesses His people. Where is your heart? Maybe you forgot what God has done for you and your family. Your kids? That's your blessing.
