The Rise of the Church

:: CHALLENGE POINT ::

This is one of the most exciting times of the Church calendar as we move into the post-resurrection message of Christ. It begins in the book of Acts which is actually a continuation of Luke's gospel. Luke tells the story of what Jesus began to do and teach while He was on the earth. Luke records what Jesus continued to do by the power of the Holy Spirit working through the Church. The essence of the vision of Jesus Christ is to know its purpose that Jesus is going to set in motion as He begins to build His Church. The purpose for this vision is the rise of the Church of Jesus Christ as highlighted in Acts chapter 1. Jesus tells them that their vision and goal is to be His witnesses for the gospel. That is the message of the person and the work of Jesus Christ in the world, and that message is to win souls for the glory of God. This becomes now the function of the Church -- To reach masses of people for God.

The first attribute and purpose of the Church is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. The second attribute and purpose of the Church of Jesus Christ is to use the gospel to win souls for Christ. The third attribute and purpose of the Church of Jesus Christ is to bring application to their lives -- that is to draw them to conviction, that their hearts would be turned to the message of the gospel. Fourth and finally, the vision and purpose in the rise of the Church was to challenge them, and to tell them what they should do. Peter said in Acts 2:38, “Repent, be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” This is where we begin. This is where the Church begins. Can you bring relevance to your life through these attributes of the first Church? Do you see your life and church modeling these first century Church attributes that Jesus commanded the Church of today to practice, model and master?
