:: CHALLENGE POINT ::
God always wants us to know what He is doing in our lives, and where He is working, so that we might work with Him in that place. Acting on the challenge, or conviction of the message as Peter said when they asked him what they should do, Peter said, “Repent, be baptized in the name of Jesus for the remission of sins and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit”. As the Church began to grow the vitality and vision of the Church was offered in four specific ways as we read in the book of Acts: “Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day. They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer” (Acts 2:41-42 NIV).
Baptism was offered, they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine (teaching) and in fellowship which is the word koinonia in the Greek to emphasize friendship, and in the breaking of bread, both as a sacrament unto the Lord and eating and fellowshipping among the believers. Food together is important. It gives us a relaxed atmosphere to get to know one another. Food says, it's good to see you, tell me about yourself, and pass the gravy! And finally in prayers. Most pastors will tell you the most deficient part of the Church is most likely in prayer. We must take prayer seriously.
This is a summary of the essential elements needed in Christian discipleship. They are elements the Apostles had learned from their experience with Jesus. This was the Essence of Vision which brought vitality to the young Church.
Are you consistent in your attendance and service to the Church of Jesus Christ? To fear the Church or consider it not relevant or unattractive is to be too invested in the world. Where is your heart today? What is it that excites you about hearing from God each and every week? May God bless your heart with such things for His glory and His praise.
