Three names are given for Jesus from the call of Luke 2. The angel comes to make his announcement, "For there is born to you this day in the city of David, a Savior, Christ the Lord". Our Savior, our salvation, Christ our Messiah, and Lord our Master. All three identify who this incarnate God man is. Two scenes are evident in time, one in heaven at the conclusion of the reign of Jesus, and the other is on the earth at the beginning of the earthly life of Jesus. The Christmas story tells of the arrival of this Messiah who is also called the Lamb of God. The meaning of this name is part of the Easter story as well, in the death and the resurrection of Christ. The story of salvation describes to us the birth of Christ at the first Christmas. The angels and the prophets spoke that the salvation Jesus would bring heralded glory to God in the highest and on earth, peace for God has found favor with man.
